Chelsea striker Sam Kerr and U.S. midfielder Kristie Mewis have announced they’re expecting a baby! The couple shared the exciting news on Instagram, posting photos together, including a touching shot of them holding an ultrasound image, with the caption: “Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!”
Kerr, captain of Australia’s national team and a key player for Chelsea, recently extended her contract with the London club until 2026. Known as one of football’s brightest stars, she’s won five Women’s Super League titles, three FA Cups, and two League Cups, though she’s currently sidelined due to a knee injury.
Meanwhile, Mewis, who joined West Ham from NJ/NY Gotham FC in December, is expecting and has represented the U.S. 53 times.
“A huge congratulations to Kristie and her partner Sam, who have announced they are expecting their first child,” West Ham said on Instagram.
The two athletes sparked romance rumours during their time at the Tokyo Olympics, where they competed on opposing teams. After a tense match that saw Team USA secure the bronze medal, Mewis offered comfort to Kerr on the field, showcasing the strength of their connection despite the competitive environment.
Reflecting on their relationship, Mewis has shared how vital Kerr’s support has been in her career within the National Women’s Soccer League. In an intimate reflection, she recalled the challenges of the 2023 World Cup and how Kerr was there for her through those difficult moments.
“My biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain about all my crazy antics,” Mewis shared with heartfelt appreciation.
