Star India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was seen selling himself in a mock auction ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Notably, the mega auction for the IPL 2025 will be conducted on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Ahead of the bidding event, Ashwin conducted a mock auction on his Youtube channel where several analysts and fans bid for players representing the ten teams.
Big players such as KL Rahul, Jos Buttler, David Warner, Trent Boult, David Miller Quinton de Kock and Ashwin himself were seen being sold at the event. Star batter KL Rahul even triggered a bidding war between Delhi and Kolkata attracting bids of over 15 crore. Ashwin released a trailer of the event beginning by saying that he’s first man in the Indian television history to auction himself and introduced the people involved in the auction.
“First time in Indian Television history, the first person to auction himself. Generally, I get very excited about IPL auctions. For the first time, in our channel, we have conducted mock auctions inviting a lot of people. Many cricket fans, analysts, people who’ve been following IPL for many years, we’ve finished conducting a very competitive auctions with these people. Extremely entertaining! people who came to participate in our channel picked really good teams,” said Ashwin on his Youtube Channel.
A total of 1,574 players players have registered for the mega auction out of which 1165 were Indian and 409 were overseas. Each team can build a squad of 25 players each and hence 204 slots are still left to be filled across ten franchises. Heading into the auction Punjab Kings have the highest purse amount of INR 110.5 Crore followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru of INR 83 Crore.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have the least purse amount of INR 41 Crore followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (INR 45 Crore) and Mumbai Indians (INR 45 Crore). Several big names such as Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, James Anderson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jofra Archer, Kagiso Rabada among others will go under the hammer in the bidding event as franchises will be seen getting into a war to have them in their squads.
