AUS vs IND: Shubman Gill warms up for Adelaide Test with brisk fifty vs PM XI

Shubman Gill scored a brisk fifty in India’s warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. The right-handed batter made 50 runs off 62 with seven fours before retiring from his innings. The 25-year-old Gill missed the first Test against Australia due to a thumb injury that he sustained in a match simulation at the WACA before the series opener.

India vs Prime Minister’s XI Day 2 Updates

He came to bat after Charlie Anderson got the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who followed up his heroic hundred in Perth with a 45-run knock. Gill began his knock with a boundary of Mahli Beardman through the deep mid-wicket boundary. From there on, he kept rotating the strike to good effect and also kept collecting boundaries.

Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal were the Indian batters who did not look in great touch in the Perth Test. If Gill plays, he might bat at No.3, replacing Padikkal, who got out to Josh Hazlewood in both innings of the opening Test.

The knock he played against the PM XI should keep him in good stead before the Day-Night Test. In 29 Tests, Gill has scored 1800 runs at an average of 36.73 with five centuries and seven fifties to his name.

On Friday, Gill returned to the nets and played some impressive shots. The youngster said that he was happy with how he had recovered.

“When I got to know about my injury, for the first couple of days, I was quite low and disappointed. Perth was the only venue where I didn’t play when we came the last time and I was looking forward to playing there at such an iconic venue. The way we played that game, at the end of the day, I was very happy,” Gill said earlier.

The Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval starts on Friday, December 6.
