AUS vs PAK: Babar Azam eyes Chris Gayle’s feat as he approaches 11,000 T20 runs

Babar Azam is on the verge of a major landmark in T20 cricket. The right-handed batter is on the verge of becoming the fastest batter to score 11000 runs in the format. Currently, Chris Gayle holds the record after he got to the feat in 314 innings back in December 2017 in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Babar needs 52 runs to reach the milestone, and he will have his chance in the third T20I against Josh Inglis’ Australia on Monday, November 18 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. In 295 innings from 306 matches, Babar has notched 10948 runs at an average of 43.61 and a strike-rate of 129.30.

Babar already holds the record for becoming the fastest to the milestone of 7000, 9000 and 10000 runs in T20 cricket. He will also become only the 11th batter to get 11000 runs in T20s after Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Jos Buttler, Rohit Sharma, Aaron Finch and James Vince.

Babar Azam struggling for form

Babar Azam hasn’t had the best of run in T20 cricket of late. He has had his fair share of struggles in the ongoing T20 series against Australia. In the first game of the series at The Gabba in Brisbane, Babar scored three runs before Nathan Ellis accounted for his wicket. Pakistan lost the match by 29 runs to go 0-1 down in the three-match series.

In the second game at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Babar again got out for three runs after Xavier Bartlett took his wicket. Yet again Pakistan lost the game and this time around, they conceded the series with a 13-run defeat. Babar batted at No.3 in the first game and opened in the second, but his fortunes didn’t change.
