Bangladesh issue is causing “some uncertainty” in the garment industry: FM Sitharaman

It is anticipated that Indian textile businesses investing in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry will encounter difficulties in the near future in sustaining current production flows.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman commented on the recent events in Bangladesh on August 10 and stated that there is “some uncertainty” around Indian investments in the neighboring country for the knitted fabric and apparel industries.

“I have had conversations with some of our Tamil Nadu-based textile and apparel investors in Bangladesh. The investments were made there with good intentions, and they were successful afterward; Bangladeshi exports had also expanded.”

“There is some uncertainty at the moment in the knitted fabric and apparel industries. “I hope every investment is secure,” Sitharaman stated.
