CAS gives itself until August 11 to rule on the case of Vinesh Phogat.

While Vinesh Phogat and her team are aiming for a silver medal, the IOC has made it clear that two wrestlers in the 50 kg women’s freestyle weight class are not permitted to place second.

The sole arbitrator, Hon. Dr. Annabelle Bennett, has been granted an extension until August 13 by the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) to render a decision regarding the disqualification of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat for not meeting weight requirements prior to her gold medal match in the 50 kg women’s freestyle wrestling competition at the Paris Olympics.

Since Phogat reached the summit clash before to her removal, she and her team are aiming for a silver medal. However, the IOC has already made it clear that two wrestlers cannot finish second in the 50 kg women’s freestyle weight category.

When it was discovered that Phogat was 100 grams overweight prior to her medal-winning bout, her incredible journey to the finals was cut short. She was consequently deemed to have placed last in her division and even had the silver medal taken away from her.
