India captain Rohit Sharma has revealed that he asked R Ashwin to stay on for the pink-ball Test after the spinner announced his retirement from the game after the match in Gabba. Ashwin, who played the game in Adelaide, wasn’t picked in the side for the matches in Perth and Brisbane.
After a glorious career, Ashwin decided to announce during the post-match press conference that he has retired from international cricket completely. Speaking about the retiring spinner, Rohit revealed that he came to know about Ashwin’s decision when he had arrived in Perth. The India captain revealed that Ashwin understands the teams plans and the combinations they would be going with and hence decided to make the call after the match in Brisbane.
“Heard about R Ashwin’s retirement when I came to Perth. He understands what the team is thinking, combinations what team is thinking. I convinced him to stay for the pink-ball Test,” said Rohit at the press conference.
Rohit would reveal that Ashwin will leave the squad and head back home on December 19.
