Mike Tyson and Jake Paul are all set to collide on November 15, Friday in Dallas, Texas as the boxing legend makes his return to the ring. Iron Mike will be coming back after a long hiatus and will go up against the Problem Child, who has a 10-1 record.
The open workouts showed that both men were ready to give their all for the battle with Tyson rolling back the years. Paul would claim that he would knock out the boxing legend and the match wouldn’t go the distance and the tensions finally spilt over to the weigh-ins. At the event on November 14, Thursday, Iron Mike proceeded to slap the Problem Child as Paul would once again promise he would knockout the former World Champion.
With the fighters both set, the rules for the fight have also been determined. However, these rules don’t stick to the usual ones that we see in a boxing fight. The rules for the Tyson vs Paul showdown is similar to the ones that was used for Iron Mike’s fight with Roy Jones Jr. behind closed doors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul: Rules of the fight
Rounds
If neither Mike Tyson nor Jake Paul secures a knockout on Friday, the fight will last just 16 minutes. This is because the bout will consist of eight two-minute rounds, a format initially approved for hosting the exhibition in Texas. However, when Tyson insisted the fight be sanctioned as a professional contest, both fighters requested to retain the shorter rounds. Typically, high-profile bouts are held over 10 or 12 three-minute rounds, but questions about Tyson’s stamina likely influenced the decision.
Another unusual aspect is the use of 14oz gloves, heavier than the 10oz gloves normally worn in professional heavyweight fights. These gloves provide extra padding, reducing the likelihood of knockouts and slowing punches due to their added weight. Surprisingly, they’re even bulkier than the 12oz gloves Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. used in their exhibition four years ago.
Knockdowns/Knockouts
Since the fight is officially sanctioned, knockdowns and knockouts are allowed—unlike Tyson’s 2020 exhibition with Roy Jones Jr., where such outcomes were prohibited. That rule ultimately proved unnecessary, as neither fighter posed a significant threat of ending the match early. On Friday, however, both Tyson and Paul have promised to deliver a knockout, a moment that could dominate headlines and go viral for years if it happens.
Scoring/Winning
Regardless of whether the fight goes the distance, a winner will be declared. This wasn’t the case when Logan Paul, Jake’s brother, fought Floyd Mayweather in 2021; that bout ended without an official result after eight three-minute rounds, with both claiming victory. On Friday, three ringside judges will score the fight using the 10-point must system. Each round will be awarded 10-9 to the superior fighter or 10-8 in the event of a knockdown, with ties scored 10-10.
