Jemimah Rodrigues hits maiden fifty for Brisbane Heat, wins Player of the Match


Star India batter Jemimah Rodrigues hit her maiden fifty for Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League 2024. She won the Player of the Match award for her unbeaten 61 off just 40 balls against the Adelaide Strikers. Brisbane Heat won the match by 8 runs and beat the Strikers to register their third win of the season. Rodrigues starred with the bat after missing the first two matches for Brisbane Heat due to her national duties. The Heat are currently at No. 4 position in the points table with three wins in six games.

This was Jemimah’s third fifty in the Big Bash League as she scored two half centuries in the last edition of Melbourne Renegades. The 24-year-old also completed 500 runs in the Big Bash League enroute her 61* vs Adelaide Strikers. Jemimah acknowledged the support and cheering which the Brisbane Heat team received from an upbeat Australian crowd. Smriti Mandhana also participated in the clash with the Adelaide Strikers.

Jemimah wins Player of the Match

“Its a huge deal at the Gabba. You dream about all this stuff. So, you know, just for me to come out and play and I have so much support. Like every run was being cheered, every dot ball, they were clapping and cheering for us. It felt so nice,” Jemimah said in the post-match presentation.

Brisbane Heat beat Adelaide Strikers

Jemimah walked into bat at No. 3 and built on start provided by Grace Harris. Jess Jonassen scored 32 as she shared a 54-run stand with Jemimah. She played a blazing knock of 61 runs from 40 balls with 7 fours and a six as Brisbane Heat scored 175/6. In response, Adelaide Strikers managed only 167 runs despite Briget Patterson and Madeline Penna being unbeaten at 61 and 59. Mandhana, who made her debut for the Strikers, could manage only 6 runs as they lost their second consecutive game of the season.
