JP Duminy steps down as South Africa’s white-ball batting coach

Former South Africa cricketer JP Duminy has stepped down from his position as batting coach of his national side for white-ball formats on Friday, December 6. The former all rounder, who’s been associated with the team since March 2023, has decided to part ways due to personal reasons.

The Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed Duminy’s resignation in a statement and revealed that a search for his replacement is underway. The 40-year-old was a part of the coaching staff for the ODI World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2024 where the Proteas finished in the semi final and finals respectively.

CSA thanked Duminy for his invaluable contributions in the development of team’s batting during his tenure and wished him well for his future endeavours.

“Cricket South Africa (CSA) announces that JP Duminy has stepped down from his role as the white-ball batting coach with immediate effect, following a mutual agreement with CSA based on personal reasons. His contributions to the growth and development of the batting department within the national white-ball setup have been invaluable,” wrote CSA on their X account.

“CSA wishes Duminy all the best in his future endeavours and thanks him for his contributions to the Proteas Men’s team during his tenure. A process to identify a suitable replacement is currently underway, and the appointment of a new white-ball batting coach will be announced in due course,” he added.

Duminy had an 11-year-long career for his national side where he played in 46 Tests, 199 ODIs and 81 T20Is. The southpaw scored 2103 runs in Tests, 5117 runs in ODIs and 1934 runs in T20Is. His last appearance for South Africa came during the 2019 ODI World Cup where South Africa crashed out in the first stage itself. After the ongoing two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, South Africa are set to play all-format series against Pakistan which includes three T20Is, as many ODIs, and two Tests.
