Manchester City has character to come out of rough patch: Ruben Dias

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias expressed confidence in the team’s ability to overcome their current slump after the defending champions suffered their fourth consecutive Premier League loss, a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah secured victory for the league leaders, leaving City fifth in the standings, 11 points adrift of Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

The defeat marked City’s first four-game losing streak in the league since 2008 and extended their winless run across all competitions to seven matches. This dismal period includes six losses and a dramatic 3-3 draw at home to Feyenoord in the Champions League. Defensive vulnerabilities have been a significant factor, with City conceding 19 goals during the streak, including four-goal defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Sporting CP. This defensive frailty is in stark contrast to their earlier form, when they allowed just 11 goals in their first 14 games of the season.

Despite the poor run, Dias emphasized the team’s resilience and character, expressing optimism that City could bounce back from this challenging phase.

“I will not talk about the little details but focus on the bigger picture,” said Dias, who was at fault in the lead up to Liverpool’s second.

“That is, even though it was a difficult moment I did see a lot of character and I did see the fans behind us and that is the only way we are going to go through it.”

Dias feels that City will need to be versatile, adapt and keep on moving forward despite the injuries in their squad at the moment.

“This is just part of our legacy. We have won so much and still we are where we are and this happens,” Dias added.

“We have been able to be versatile, adapt and keep on moving forward and thinking one game at a time… That is what we need to get back to.”

City will be aiming to get back to winning ways as they host Nottingham Forest on December 4 at the Etihad stadium. Guardiola’s side are currently 5th on the Premier League points table at the moment.
