Mumbai succesfully defended their title in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2024. On Tuesday, November 12, Humaira Kaazi and Co. defeated Bengal by 10 wickets at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Last year, they defeated Uttarakhand in the final to win the championship for the first time, and they backed it up with another title to their name.
After opting to bat first, Bengal were bowled out for 85. Opener Dhara Gujjar was their top scorer after she made 26 runs off 38 balls with three fours. With their team at 51 for six in 15 overs, Hrishita Basu and Titas Sadhu put on 32 runs for the seventh wicket, but it wasn’t enough for Bengal to go past the 100-run mark.
For Mumbai, Jargravi Pawar was the standout bowler after she finished with figures of 4-0-13-3. Saumya Singh also performed well after taking two wickets for 11 runs. Fatima Jaffer got the wicket of Gujjar. Saima Thakor, who made her international debut against New Zealand, was economical in the two overs she bowled.
Kaazi, Vrushali take Mumbai home
Mumbai looked dominating and chased down the target with 7.3 overs left in their innings. Kaazi, who was a part of the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League, scored an unbeaten 41 off 36 balls, laced with five fours and a six.
Kaazi’s opening partner, Vrushali Bhagat, stayed not out on 45 off 39 balls with six fours. Kaazi and Vrushali never let any presssure build with an unbeaten partnership of 86 in 12.3 overs.
Bengal used five bowlers, but no one managed to make a breakthrough. Titas Sadhu had an off day after she leaked 26 runs in 2.3 overs. Mumbai also became only the second team after Railways to win back-to-back titles in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2024.
