Rohit Sharma’s return to the No.6 spot during the pink-ball Test in Adelaide ended on a sour note as the India captain was dismissed for just 3 runs off 23 balls. Rohit was trapped in front of the stumps by Scott Boland as Australia continued to assert their dominance on Day 1 after a late resurgence in session one.
Rohit, who had decided to give up his opener’s spot to KL Rahul, came into bat during the 22nd over after India lost Shubman Gill. Rohit ensured that India went into break at 82 for 4. The India captain was very patient with his innings and looked very composed while batting.
However, Boland would deliver a gem of a delivery to trap Rohit in front of the stumps. The Aussie pacer was able to force Rohit to defend inside the crease and the ball came in to beat the inside edge and strike the India captain right in front of the stumps.

Rohit was straight away given out and the Indian captain did have a chat with Rishabh Pant before deciding not to go for the review. The India captain’s dismissal meant India lost half their side for just 87 runs.
This was Rohit’s first innings in the No.6 spot after almost 6 years. Incidentally, the last time he batted in the position was during the boxing day Test in the 2018-19 tour of Australia in Melbourne. The India captain has scored 1040 runs from the spot at an average of 52 in 17 matches.
