Raashii Khanna Opens Up About How People Questioned Her Decision To Say Yes To The Sabarmati Report

Raashii Khanna’s latest film, The Sabarmati Report, was released in cinemas today (November 15). Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film is based on the Godhra train burning incident of February 2002, involving the Sabarmati Express. In a recent interview, Raashii opened up about how people questioned her decision to take on this project, especially since she has never publicly taken a political stance before. The actress said, “For Sabarmati (The Sabarmati Report), there were people who questioned, ‘You have never taken a political stance in anything till now. But, you are doing a film like this. Why did you do this? Are you sure of it?’”

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Raashii Khanna added, “Yeh sab sawaal aye mere liye mere aas paas jitne bhi log the. Aur mere pas bhi jab yeh film ayi thi sabse pehle to mere bhi yahi sawaal the ki kya yeh sahi hai. Pehli baar mujhe sochna zada pda. [These were the questions that came to me from everyone around me. And when this film came to me for the first time, I had the same questions as well – whether this is right. For the first time, I had to think more.”

The actress also shared that a significant amount of research went into the making of the film, as it tackles a “sensitive topic.” Raashii Khanna said, “ Lekin jab mai team se mili aur yeh humne bahut interview me pehle bhi bola hai ki hamare paas ek script aai aur research ussey bhi zada thi us script pe, kyuki yeh bahut sensitive topic hai aur yeh kahi pe bhi left ya right ja sakta hai aisa mujhe lga. Lekin jab hum shoot start kiye, I was very confident of the film. Aur mujhe nahi lagta hai ki log jis angle se dekh rahe hai, vo angle hai. [But when I met the team, and as we have said in many interviews before, we had a script that came to us, and the research behind it was even more than the script itself because this is a very sensitive topic, and it could go either way, I felt. But when we started shooting, I was confident about it. And I do not think that the angle people are looking at it from is the right one.]”

Raashii Khanna also highlighted that The Sabarmati Report serves as a tribute to all those who lost their lives during the Godhra train burning incident. She said, “I think it is a human angle, where 59 people lost their lives and we are only talking about them. It is a tribute to them, without taking any sides but the side of humanity.”

In her latest Instagram post, Raashii shared a BTS video from the sets of The Sabarmati Report. The caption read: “Kyuki khaana, gaana, hasna aur batiyaana jaroori hai” (Because eating, singing, laughing and talking is important). Take a look:

In another BTS video shared by Raashii, Vikrant can be seen helping her with her makeup. In the caption, she wrote, “Dost ho to Massey jaisa, nazar na lage” (A friend should be like Massey, Amen). Have a look:
