Al Nassr defender Aymeric Laporte has addressed rumors linking him with Real Madrid, stating he would consider joining if the LaLiga club approaches him. Currently playing in Saudi Arabia alongside former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, Laporte shared that being connected to a club of Real Madrid’s stature feels rewarding. The Spanish center-back’s comments come amid Real Madrid’s ongoing struggle with defensive injuries and their reported interest in signing a top center-back this January.
Real Madrid’s backline has been hit hard this season, with multiple defenders sidelined due to injuries. Eder Militao is out for the entire season following an ACL injury, David Alaba is yet to return after suffering an ACL tear last year, and Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vasquez have also faced long-term injuries. In light of these setbacks, Real Madrid is reportedly looking to sign a dependable center-back, and Laporte, who remains a standout name on their shortlist, could be the ideal solution. Laporte is currently on international duty with Spain and spoke candidly about the speculation in an interview with El Larguero.
“I’d obviously listen to the Real Madrid call, you can’t ignore clubs like that..It feels good to see the links. I’m not so informed about that, but it’s obviously nice,” Laporte said.
Laporte a key option for Real Madrid
Before moving to the Saudi Pro League in a big-money transfer to join Al Nassr, Laporte enjoyed a highly successful spell at Manchester City. He was a consistent first-choice center-back for the English club between 2018 and 2023, during which he was key to their Premier League dominance. His experience and composure made him one of Europe’s most reliable defenders.
Laporte also played an instrumental role in Spain’s 2024 Euro triumph, a testament to his continued effectiveness at the international level. His move to Al Nassr raised some eyebrows, yet he has maintained high performance levels, suggesting he could seamlessly adapt to LaLiga if Madrid decides to make an offer.
With the January transfer window approaching, Real Madrid’s need for defensive reinforcements and Laporte’s availability could make for a mutually beneficial move, bringing a proven talent into the fold just as the club contends for LaLiga and Champions League success.
