Ruud van Nistelrooy sends farewell message to Manchester United after exit

Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent a heartwarming farewell message to Manchester United and the fans after his exit from the club. Van Nistelrooy, who had returned as an assistant coach to the club, was given the interim manager’s job after Erik ten Hag was sacked from his role after a poor run of form.

United would go on to appoint Ruben Amorim as the new head coach soon after, and the Portuguese tactician decided that it was best for Van Nistelrooy to move on, as he brought his own support staff from Sporting Lisbon. The United legend would take to social media to post the message to thank the backroom staff, players and fans of the club. Van Nistelrooy said that he would cherish the moments that they had shared during his time as a player, coach and manager.

The Dutch legend said that Manchester United will always have a special place in his heart and hopes that the glory days will soon return back to the club.

“To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, in particular the backroom staff, the players and the fans. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support. It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach and manager, and I will always cherish the memories we have shared together. @ManUtd will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon – not only because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it! All the best and take care, Ruud,” read the statement.

Van Nistelrooy’s run as Manchester United manager

United were unbeaten during Van Nistelrooy’s time as the interim manager as they won 3 matches and played out a draw. During this time, United only conceded 3 goals and scored 10. His final match in charge was the 3-0 win over Leicester City just before the November international break.

Amorim will officially take charge of United for the away clash against Ipswich Town on November 24.
