Sunil Gavaskar slams ‘crybaby’ English media on air with R Ashwin’s example

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed the English media on air calling them ‘crybabies’ during Day 1 of the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur. Notably, Gavaskar was comparing India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin’s hundreds at his home ground MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The legendary batter mentioned how he scored centuries on completely different surfaces. He recalled his first century in Chennai against England in February 2021 and how he ‘walked the talk’ after the English media heavily criticized the surface.

IND vs BAN, 2nd Test Day 1: Highlights

“That was on a turning track and this one on a seaming track. He (Ashwin) actually said the previous day in the press conference that you can get a hundred if you apply yourself. So he walked the talk there against England where the moaners were going on saying ‘what kind of wicket is this’. ‘Pitch is awkward’ etc all those you know regular crybaby remarks that we get to hear from the England media,” Gavaskar said.

The veteran spinner had a dream outing in his fourth Test in Chennai as he scalped 8/96 across two innings including a five wicket haul in the first innings. He also scored a magnificent 106 in the second innings to decimate England with both bat and ball and deservedly won the Player of the Match award.

Ashwin’s love affair with Chennai

The veteran spinner continued his love affair with the venue in the recent Test against Bangladesh as he registered his sixth Test century scoring a magnificent 113 and also picked up 6/88 in the second innings to win his tenth Player of the Match award.

Meanwhile, rain marred the first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh as the visitors finished the day on 107/3. After India captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first, Akash Deep rattled the Bangladesh top order dismissing Zakir Hasan (0) and Shadman Islam (24). Ashwin also chipped in with a wicket dismissing Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 31. Bangladesh finished Day 1 on 107/3 with Mominul Haque (40*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6*) at the crease.
